John L. Miclot, CEO of Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, announced during the Medtrade Keynote Panel discussion last week that he had resigned from Respironics/Philips, effective in mid-November.
Miclot will head up Clearwater, Fla-based CCS Medical, a nationwide provider of various home care staples such as insulin pumps, incontinence products, and respiratory equipment.
Philips, based in Murrysville, Pa., wasted little time in naming a successor. The company tapped Donald J. Spence, who is the currently the company’s president of sleep and home respiratory.
At a Philips media event, Miclot made a few brief comments, but did not specify his reasons for leaving. Successor Spence praised Miclot’s leadership and acknowledged that his boss left big shoes to fill.
Contemplating the prospect of Miclot’s new company as a potential customer, Spence joked, "I don’t look forward to the negotiating sessions."
Following the March 2008 acquisition of Respironics Inc. by Philips, Miclot was appointed CEO of Philips Home Healthcare Solutions. He has served as president and CEO of Respironics since December 2003.
Miclot’s resignation comes after his having served a full decade with the company. Miclot joined Respironics in 1998 when it acquired Healthdyne Technologies where he had served as senior vice president of sales and marketing from 1995-1998. He was later appointed as the group vice president for sleep disorders; he was quickly promoted to senior vice president of sales, marketing, and manufacturing.
Miclot began his career in sales for both DeRoyal Industries and the Edward’s Critical Care Division of Baxter Healthcare. Miclot became a product manager in 1985 for Baxter’s pulmonary artery catheter product line and moved to Southern California where he assumed positions of increasing responsibility in the marketing and business development areas.
In 1988 he joined the Ohmeda Division of BOC Healthcare as Director of Marketing. In this position, he directed research and development investments and developed annual operating plans and global strategic plans. Miclot was appointed director of international marketing and service in 1992; he assumed the position of vice president of international marketing in 1993. In 1994, Miclot joined Medex Inc., a medical device company specializing in cardiovascular pressure monitoring, as Vice President of Marketing.
Miclot earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from the University of Iowa. He is currently a member of the Young Presidents Organization.
