Information on how to contact Awake In America
You may contact Awake In America in a variety of ways.
General information
Awake In America is a national non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As such, we rely on volunteer assistance in many facets of our operations. Because of this, we have specific methods of contact, as some areas are assigned to volunteers, while other areas are assigned to various individuals associated with Awake In America.
If you wish to contact Awake In America’s offices with questions about our xPAP Donation and Relief Program (designed to help individuals with sleep apnea obtain CPAP and BiPAP/bi-level machines) or the Sleep Study Relief Program, please be sure to read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file before contacting us using any of the methods below. Every unique question asked since the inception of each programs have been posted online and are available for review. Links to the FAQs for both programs are below:
- xPAP Relief Program Frequently Asked Questions (CPAP & BiPAP machines)

Phone
You may contact Awake In America via phone at 215-764-6568. If we’re busy or out-of-the-office, calls will be directed to voicemail. We check voicemail throughout the day, and some days, because of a large number of calls received, it becomes impossible to return all calls the same day.
When leaving a voicemail, please be sure to leave your name, the reason you are calling, such as you are an individual who is currently unemployed and do not have any form of health insurance, but your physician believes you are suffering from undiagnosed sleep apnea, and you’re calling about the Sleep Study Relief Program. This kind of messages gives us enough initial information to have the most appropriate person return your call.
We cannot give “status checks” about relief program applications over the phone. If you submitted an application to either the Sleep Study Relief Program or the xPAP Donation and Relief Program more than 30 days ago, the applicant may submit an email to our offices — being certain to select the appropriate program on the contact form — asking that someone give you a call or send you an email with general status information. To send this request, you must submit it in writing via our contact form; you must include your home phone number; you must indicate the approximate date mailed; and when contacted, be prepared to answer one or two personal questions to prove your identity.
Due to the number of calls received, or the time of day your call is received, it may be the next business day before your call is returned. We are in the Eastern time zone, so if you’re calling from the Central time zone (i.e., Dallas, Chicago), it’s an hour later in our offices than your location. If you’re calling from the Mountain time zone (i.e., Denver), it’s two hours later in our offices than your location. If you’re calling from the Pacific time zone (i.e, Seattle, Los Angeles), it’s three hours later in our offices than your location.
Some calls require that a specific person within Awake In America return your call, as some programs, such as the xPAP Donation and Relief Program, the Sleep Study Relief Program, the Provider Education Program, and others, are assigned to specific individuals. General questions, not related to a program, are often returned a little faster, as others may return the calls. Based on the message you leave, though, the call may be assigned to a specific person, especially if it relates to a specific program.
U.S. Mail
If you wish to send questions or comments via a postcard or letter through the U.S. Postal Service, you may do that, as well. The mailing address is:
Awake In America, Inc.
P.O. Box 51601
Philadelphia, PA 19115-6601
To protect the privacy of individuals contacting us via U.S. Mail, as week as go security purposes, and to reduce the possibility of mail being delivered to the wrong address, all mail sent to Awake In America is received at the Post Office boxes secured for its use. All official correspondence, equipment, applications for programs, and donations must be received through these addresses, as only Board members have access to the Post Office boxes.
Online/email
Email, SPAM, and IM
Because of the daily volume of SPAM received by Awake In America, we eliminated the use of permanent email addresses and migrated to the use of contact forms to meet our needs.
In replacing our email accounts, we created contact forms so individuals contacting us may use the most appropriate form, though for most purposes, our general contact form will fit the bill.
For your convenience, we established two instant messaging (IM) accounts several years ago so we could answer questions in real-time for individuals at any time our presence is online. One of the IM accounts is based through AOL’s free instant messaging tool, AOL Instant Messenger, and the other IM account is based through Yahoo’s free instant messaging tool, Yahoo Messenger. You will need to download and install either AOL’s or Yahoo’s free instant messaging client, or even one of the many multi-protocol Internet instant messaging clients, which allow you to logon to AOL or Yahoo, among other IM networks, AIM client if you do not already have an AOL or AIM account.
Please do not send email to Awake In America’s AOL IM or Yahoo Messenger’s email accounts tied to the chat accounts. While both services may offer free email to users, Awake In America does not use the email provided through the AOL/AIM or the Yahoo Messenger program. Any and all email received at either account will remain unread by Awake In America, which means it will never be answered or read.
While other instant messaging clients may send messages to both AOL IM/AIM and Yahoo Messenger, Awake In America will not make specific recommendations, workability, stability, or appropriateness on any computer, workstation, or location, for other clients. Awake In America does not provide installation or any other support for instant messaging clients, including AOL Instant Messenger/AIM or Yahoo Messenger, nor do we endorse either. They are simply the tools chosen by the Board of Directors for use due to the popularity of each chat client, as well as ease of installation. A short list of other potential chat clients you may read about is:
- Pidgin (formerly Gaim)
- Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger)
- Trillian
Awake In America’s screen names are:
-
AOL Instant Messenger/AIM: AwakeInAmerica05
-
Yahoo Instant Messenger: AwakeInAmerica
